| Support your local wine Merchant
As part of my mission, I am keen to support merchants whose knowledge, love and hard work are vital in bringing varied and fascinating wines to the public. We in turn need to support them - not hard these days when most are online, with easy ways of buying. More fun still is to browse in their shops, where you will get good advice, and have a chance to try the wines themselves.
Here are some merchants worth looking out for. I have no connection with any of them.
RESERVE WINES (Didsbury) have strength in depth, their best wines being around the £10 - 20 mark. Great Italian selection.
WOODWINTERS (Bridge of Allan) are a little treasure near Stirling. Wide range of wines; many gems under £10. If Doug corners you, you're in trouble! | HALIFAX WINE CO (Halifax!) for a fantastic range of wines, particularly from Portugal.
GAUNTLEYS (Nottingham) are great Rhone and Alsace specialists. John, Victoria and Chris are all mad. About wine, too...
D BYRNE (Clitheroe) is an Aladdins cave of fine & rare wines. Instant death to one's credit card.
GREAT GROG (Edinburgh) was set up by 3 ex-Oddbins guys. They focus on small parcels of wine, often discounted. Delivery is free.
